Common questions, answered

The square at the northern end of Las Canteras beach, where the promenade runs into the old fishermen's quarter of La Isleta. From here you look down the whole bay to the southwest and straight out over the open sea to where the sun goes down.
Straight talk
What to know before you go.
- The square has seen better days. A renovation was due in 2021; in May 2026 the plans were still being drawn up. Come for the view and the sculpture, not for a polished plaza.
- The sculpture is a copy. Salt air wrecked Manrique's original, which was taken down in 2016. What turns here now is a stainless-steel replica built in 2026 with the involvement of his foundation.
- Parking is mostly for residents. Only 60 short-stay spaces under the square, and nothing over 1.95 m fits. With a van, or on a busy summer evening, the bus is less hassle.
- There are two La Puntillas. The Playa de La Puntilla in San Cristóbal, on the other side of the city, is being rebuilt from September 2026. News about those works is not about this square.
Getting there
La Puntilla is at the far north end of the Las Canteras promenade, on the edge of La Isleta, about 6 km from the San Telmo bus station. By car you reach it through the port area and the narrow streets of La Isleta.
By car
- 01Take the GC-1 north into Las Palmas and stay on the Avenida Marítima towards the port (Puerto).
- 02Carry on along Avenida Juan Rodríguez Doreste and turn off into La Isleta via Calle Pérez Muñoz and Calle Faro.
- 03Head for the La Puntilla car park; the entrance is at Calle Alonso de Ojeda 4.
- 04From the car park you come out right by the square.
The streets around the square are narrow one-way lanes, and some are pedestrian only. Don't circle for a kerbside space; drive straight to a car park.
On foot
- 01From Parque Santa Catalina walk west along Calle Luis Morote to the beach.
- 02Turn right onto the Paseo de Las Canteras and follow it north.
- 03The promenade ends at the square with the tall, colourful wind sculpture.
Cycling on the promenade is only allowed on weekdays between 01:00 and 08:00. The rest of the time, push your bike.
Public transport
Line 1 from San Telmo
Guaguas Municipales line 1 (Teatro – Puerto) stops at Rafael Cabrera (San Telmo) and runs through the city to Agustín Millares Sall (edificio Mapfre). From there it is about 600 m on foot to the square.
Lines 20 and 41
Line 20 from Santa Catalina stops at Luján Pérez 20 on its way into La Isleta, about 320 m away. On the way back, lines 20 and 41 stop at Faro 11, about 300 m.
From the airport
Global line 60 runs to the San Telmo bus station roughly every 30 minutes. Change there to line 1.

Check before you go
Since May 2026 the city has restricted the pedestrian area above the Real Club Victoria's water-sports base in La Puntilla to ordinary walking because its structure is damaged: no events, no crowds, no vehicles. During coastal warnings from the Canary Islands government, keep off the rocks along the path to El Confital.
