Two short pedestrian streets on the old main street of Firgas, a small town in the hills of northern Gran Canaria. The upper one, the Paseo de Canarias, is dedicated to the seven islands; below it, on the Paseo de Gran Canaria, a stepped stone cascade runs about 30 m downhill.

Straight talk

What to know before you go.

  • The water isn't always on. Several visitors in 2026 found the cascade dry or barely running. The town publishes no times, so treat running water as a bonus.
  • It's a short stop. Both paseos together are about 90 m long. They are worth a detour on a drive through the north, or a morning with the mill and the plaza, but not a trip on their own.
  • Seven islands, not eight. The Paseo de Canarias dates from the 1990s. La Graciosa, recognised as the eighth inhabited island in 2018, is not on it.

Getting there

Firgas sits at about 500 m above Arucas, some 21 km by road from the San Telmo bus station in Las Palmas. The paseos run through the old centre, between Avenida Leopoldo Matos and Plaza de San Roque.

Nearly every street in the old centre is one-way. Don't drive in to look for a space; go straight to one of the car parks.

Check before you go

Firgas is building a second cascade in the median of Avenida Leopoldo Matos, just below the paseos. Work was due to start at the end of August 2026 and take five months, and the parking spaces on the median are gone while it lasts. The Casa de la Cultura on the paseo is being renovated at the same time.

Parking & arriving

East of Avenida Leopoldo Matos
€0
Open-air car park about 180 m on foot from the paseos, free according to OpenStreetMap, with 2 disabled spaces. The total number of spaces is not published.
Two car parks further south
€0
One with 21 spaces, the other with 6 spaces and 3 coach bays, both free according to OpenStreetMap. About 250 m on foot.

On site

You walk down past the islands, each shown with its coat of arms and a typical landscape in stone and tile, to the cascade. Along it runs a white wall with tiled benches and the coats of arms of all 21 municipalities of Gran Canaria plus the island's own. At the bottom are the church, Plaza de San Roque and the 16th-century water mill.

Time there
~15–30 min; ~1–2 h with the mill and the old town
Walk from car park
~180 m from the car park east of Avenida Leopoldo Matos
Toilets
Free public toilet by Plaza de San Roque, ~90 m
Food & drink
A café on the paseo, more cafés and a bar around Plaza de San Roque
Pushchair
Possible, but the paseos slope and are cobbled, with steps beside the cascade

When is it worth it?

The paseos are a public street with no opening hours. What varies is the water in the cascade and whether the rest of the old centre is open.

The town publishes no schedule for the cascade. As of September 2026.

Weekday mornings

The only time the tourist office in the old water mill is open, so you can combine the paseos with the mill.

Clear days

From the viewpoint on Plaza de San Roque, at the bottom of the paseos, you can see the sea and the north coast.
