The rock tower at 1,813 m is the island's emblem. From the La Goleta pass it's about 1.4 km uphill to the plateau at its foot. Between 10:00 and 17:00 you only get in with a free booking.

Straight talk

What to know before you go.

  • The car stays far away. The car park is 3 km from the rock as the crow flies. With the bus both ways and the climb, half a day goes quickly.
  • Mornings mean booking early. The 10:00–12:00 slots are often gone the day before. Going spontaneously works better in the afternoon, or before 10:00 with no booking at all.
  • Short but steep. The Cabildo's trail network calls the climb from La Goleta steep and busy. With kids or in sandals it takes longer than 1.4 km suggests.

Getting there

Since February 2025 you can no longer drive to the trailhead. The car stays at the Cruz de Los Llanos park-and-ride, and you carry on by bus or on foot.

Public transport

  • Bus 18 from Cruz de Los Llanos

The Tejeda – Cruz de Los Llanos – Roque Nublo – Ayacata loop runs daily about every 30 minutes from Tejeda between 9:30 and 18:00, with gaps at 10:00, 12:00, 14:30 and 16:00. From the car park it's about 10 minutes.

  • From Las Palmas

Line 303 from San Telmo to San Mateo, then 305 to Tejeda, and change there to the 18.

  • Avoiding La Goleta

Coming in on the trails from La Culata or from the Degollada de la Hoya de la Vieja (now Degollada del Aserrador), you need no booking.
